Digging Through the Archives for Games, Animation and Art

I've been drawing for a little while now and have built up a decent collection of sketches scattered across various mediums. Unfortunately, a large portion of these from my early years were lost - either physically or at the mercy of failed hard drives. I've since learned my lesson to take greater care in documenting and storing my sketches.

I've gathered a few of my favourite illustrations, animations and game content from the last ~10 to 15 years that I still have handy. I'm particularly fond of these because they were experimental in some way, whether it be exploring a new technique or pushing what I could do with novel constraints.

Illustrations

While I've generally preferred working with traditional mediums, I've always leaned towards vector art to polish my sketches since back in the days of Adobe CS2. I owe a lot to the very legitimate 'portable' versions of Illustrator available at the time so I could build up my skills between classes at school. The following illustrations are a mix of digital and traditional mediums, mostly vector work.

Animations

I've played around with making simple animations for small projects, mostly for small game projects. I haven't animated anything notable for some time beyond simple motion graphics and GIFs, but I'm eager to explore it further. These animations were predominately made in Adobe Animate, Adobe Premiere or Spriter Pro. Since these I've also messed around with OpenToonz, but I'm very keen to try out Moho Animation.

Games

I studied an undergrad in game development and loved every bit of it. Though I wasn't the greatest coder (though I'd like to think I've improved slightly since then) I loved making visual content for games. I helped out with the following small projects which were either for uni projects or game jams.

Interstellar Racer (2015)

A side-scrolling mobile app made by NerveGames@NerveGames. I developed the sprites and graphic elements. You can check the game out over at Gamejolt.

I enjoyed messing around with sprite work for non-organic characters. It's not something I usually do.

Coliseum of Carnage (2014)

A final year project for my undergrad made by a team of 4 over the course of a semester. You can check it out over on Gamejolt for all it's janky glory. I helped with the graphics, using mostly Maya for modelling, rigging and animation and the Adobe suite for everything else.

There were simple comic strips and key art made for the project too.

Undergrowth (2016)

A small project created at a 48-hour game jam. I helped with the sprite work.
